Big news for University Hospitals and its cancer patients.

It involves Tom Batiuk, the creator of the comic strip Funky Winkerbean, who used his characters to educate readers about cancer.

He's depicted the death of a young wife and mother from the recurrence of breast cancer.

Now, UH's Ireland Cancer Center is unveiling a fund called Lisa's Legacy Fund For Cancer Research and Education, named in honor of the character Lisa Moore.

Batiuk has also written a book called "Lisa's Story, The Other Shoe," and the royalties from the book will go to the fund.

All of the money raised will go to cancer research and education.

Batiuk is a cancer survivor.
