Last Cleveland-Area Drive-In May Close

POSTED: 7:50 am EDT July 26, 2006

The last picture show could be in the offing for the final drive-in theater in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County.

When was the last time you went to a drive-in movie?

Memphis Drive-In manager Russell Wintner said he and five co-owners have received an irresistible offer to buy the 20-acre property in Brooklyn just south of Cleveland. The amount of the offer and the prospective buyer weren't identified.

The bidder has until September to review the theater's books and decide whether to finalize the deal.

People from miles around also go to the Memphis Drive-In for a popular flea market every weekend.

Wintner's family owns the adjacent Memphis Kiddie Park, a nostalgic children's amusement park, but it is not for sale.
