12 Puppies, Alligator Stolen From Stark Co. Pet Store

Miniature Horse Belonging To Owner's Granddaughter Stolen Last Week

UPDATED: 6:48 pm EST December 27, 2005

Bad luck continues to follow a Stark County family and the animals that they own after thieves broke into a pet store and stole a dozen puppies and an alligator.

Last week, a miniature horse belonging to two little girls was stolen from its pasture. The grandmother of one of the girls took care of the horse, and also owns a pet store called Whiskers, Wings and Wild Things.

But late Christmas night, thieves broke into the store, stealing an alligator and 12 puppies.

Susan Fitzgerald says the thieves stole cockapoos, shitsus, dachapoos and a pug.

Fitzgerald believe the animal thieves threw a rock through the window, ran inside, pried open the padlocked cage, and ran off with the puppies.

The store has an alarm system on the doors, but not on the windows.

"It's hard to have alarms on windows because the birds and the dogs bark and they set the alarms off," said Fitzgerald.

The puppies that were stolen were worth about $600 a piece.

"They didn't take any of the labradoodles. They're worth a lot of money, but they're big, harder to get out of the store, harder to resell," said Fitzgerald.

Anyone with information about the stolen animals is asked to contact authorities.
