MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- An Ohio mom in prison for faking her daughter's cancer said she did it to keep her husband from leaving her.
Teresa Milbrandt said she regrets what she did. She shaved her daughter's head to make it look like she had chemotherapy symptoms.
Milbrandt pleaded guilty last summer to endangering children and theft after starting a collection for her daughter's leukemia treatments. She was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison.
The now 8-year-old girl has been placed in a foster home and is in a program for talented and gifted students at her elementary school.
Authorities said Milbrandt and her husband fooled 65 people and
businesses in their hometown of Urbana into donating an estimated
$31,000 for Hannah's treatment.
Milbrandt said the ruse began in early 2002 during
intense arguments between her and her husband.
