Women Would Take Pay Cut To See Kids More

Many Working Moms See Kids Less Than 3 Hours A Day

One in three working women says she would take a 10 percent pay cut if it meant more time with their children, according to a survey by CareerBuilder.com.

Survey: Less Pay For More Family Time?

Overall, nearly half said they would agree to a smaller paycheck, though not everyone went as far as giving up one-tenth of their pay.

Just more than half of women in the survey said they would leave their jobs entirely if a partner made enough money to support the family.

The Web site surveyed 880 women who work full time and have children under the age of 18 living at home. Thirty-four percent said they spend less than three hours a day with their children.

And work can even cut into time at home. Sixteen percent said they bring work home at least three days a week, and one-quarter said work had a negative effect on their relationships with their kids.

Mary Delaney, the chief sales officer for Career Builder and a mother of three, said that women can find ways to balance their lives.

One of her suggestions was to keep one calendar for work and home events, so they will have equal importance. She also said that family events should get slots on the calendar.
