CLEVELAND -- One of Cleveland's newest churches is located in a comedy club -- Hilarities Night Club, reported NewsChannel5's Ted Henry. The Rev. Alex Ennes, the pastor of Gateway Church, said he thought the comedy club would be the perfect place for a church."Ah, my wife and I had moved downtown and we looked for a place that really connected to Cleveland," said Dillion Hamilton, a Gateway Church member. Those who attend church at Hilarities are young professionals who live downtown, work out of town a lot, and then come back here when they're home to connect to their community, Henry reported."I was really attracted to the concept of loving God, living in the community and serving the city, which are pretty much the three basic beliefs of the church," said Steve Hart, another church member.Ennes said, so far, the church has not gotten any flack because of how people usually associate alcohol and raunchy humor with a comedy club."No, we've never gotten any flack," he said. "It usually catches peoples attention, they say like, hey tell me about that."Henry said the church occasionally picks up people who visited the comedy club for laughs the night before. "I always tell people there's a great lunch afterwards, so just stick around and eat some good food and call it a day," Ennes said.Ennes said services begin Sundays at 10:30 a.m.Hilarities is located on East 4th Street. You can reach Henry at henry@newsnet5.com
