Local Pastor Uses Bracelets To Put End To Complaining

Most of us find something to complain about every day, but a pastor from Kansas City wants people to wear a special bracelet to remind us to think more positively about life.

Now a local pastor is also jumping on board with the purple bracelet revolution, reported NewsChannel5's Danita Harris.

More than a million people in 80 countries have requested the bracelets. The Rev. Joan Gattuso is among that number and said she believes it is time to focus on the good, the true and the positive.

"Stop whining and focus on what's going on good in your life," she said.

In other words, no more complaining. Missouri pastor Will Bowen went on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to spread his message of no complaining and the purple bracelet that has sparked a worldwide response.

Gattuso is with Unity of Greater Cleveland Church in Shaker Heights, and she says complaining has become a habit for many of us.

"I think it's become habitual behavior in people. It's like a way to engage in conversation with people. And I truly believe there is a deeper way than just griping about life," Gattuso said.

Gattuso and her husband David ordered hundreds of the bracelets from Bowen's church to pass out to their congregation.

Gattuso explained how the bracelets work.

"You make a commitment and every time you catch yourself gossiping or complaining about something you take it from your left arm and put it on your right," she said.

The idea is to live complaint-free for 21 days. But Gattuso knows there are those who believe the world is a horrible place and they want to complain about it.

"I think we need to have an outlet. But then that's enough. My whole philosophy is it's not a yucky world. It's really a world that God created," she said.

Gattuso will kick off her complaint-free campaign by handing out the bracelets on Easter Sunday at her church.
