The 18th season of “Dancing with the Stars” is about to kickoff and the first dances are revealed.
All twelve stars will perform one of three dance styles Monday night: foxtrot, cha cha, or contemporary.
Contemporary on night one?! That’s asking a lot, because it’s one of the more unstructured and nuanced styles around.
Couples stuck with contemporary include former hockey star Sean Avery and Karina; actress Candace Cameron and Mark; and Olympic ice dancer Charlie White and Sharna.
If her tweets are any indication of how her routine is shaping up, Candace may be in the danger zone. She tweeted, “One more day until we premiere live!! @markballas I need you to calm my nerves! @dancingabc #dwts http://instagram.com/p/ln90IRJ8Q_/.”
Since they are used to the ice, Sean and Charlie should probably fare well. We’ll have to see how Candace is on the dance floor.
The foxtrot falls on TV host Drew Carey and Cheryl; Disney star James Maslow and Peta; actress Danica McKellar and Val; and swimmer Diana Nyad and Henry.
Nearly half the cast got the cha cha, including Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis and Maks; reality star NeNe Leaks and Tony; snowboarder Amy Purdy and Derek; singer Cody Simpson and Witney; and actor Billy Dee Williams and Emma.
But Amy cannot wait for the live show. She tweeted, “If there ever was a Cinderella moment it's now! Trying on my #DWTS outfits is heaven!”
The two-hour live competition kicks off at 8:00 Monday night on ABC.
