COPS crew member shot, killed during filming Omaha armed robbery for TV show

OMAHA, Neb. - For the first time in the popular show’s 25-year run, a crew member has died during the filming of “Cops.”

Omaha police told ABC affiliate KETV that sound technician Bryce Dion was killed after officers responded to an armed robbery call the crew was recording.

When the suspect Cortez Washington opened fire, police say officers shot back and Dion was hit under his arm with an officer’s bullet that slipped past his body armor.

Washington’s weapon was an Airsoft pistol disguised to look real. He was also killed in the shoot-out, dying on the scene while Dion died at the hospital.

The officer involved will be on paid administrative leave until the investigation concludes.
