Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward handcuffed at gunpoint in Los Angeles over stolen car mix-up

LOS ANGELES - Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and Dancing With The Stars contestant Hines Ward was pulled from a car and handcuffed at gunpoint as part of a mix-up early Thursday morning in Los Angeles, according to Pittsburgh TV station WTAE.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m., when Ward allegedly was a passenger in a woman's car that got pulled over by Los Angeles police.

Police ran a report on the car and realized that it had been reported stolen, so they drew their weapons and placed Ward and the driver in handcuffs, according to WTAE.

The driver, however, explained that she was the one who reported the car stolen after an incident with a valet. She was able to get her car back, but forgot to call off the alert. Police verified the woman's story and allowed her and Ward to leave without further incident, according to WTAE.

War reportedly responded with a text message to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

"There's not a story. It was a misunderstanding and the police apologized to me. I didn't get arrested. I don't have a reaction to a non story," he wrote.

Ward was reportedly "very cooperative" with police, according to the WTAE.
