Mentor ice arena hosts 'Mentor skates to Sochi'

MENTOR, Ohio - With the Winter Olympic Games getting underway in Sochi next week, many eyes turn to the grace and
athleticism of the figure skating events.

But before those talented young men and women made it all the way to the Olympic level, there was a time when they were youngsters taking their first steps on the ice.

Who knows? The next Olympic skating star could be right here in Northeast Ohio.

For skaters young and old looking to try out the ice, the Mentor Civic Arena is hosting a “Mentor Skates to Sochi” event on Sat. Feb. 1 from Noon – 3:30 p.m.

The event includes skating lessons, races, exhibitions, games, prizes and a live DJ. Admission is $4.00.

It’s the perfect opportunity to try out skating if you’ve wondered if your kids might like it (or maybe even yourself) without having to make a commitment to sign up for lessons right away. Representatives from the rink will be on hand with information on Learn-To-Skate lesson for folks who are interested in signing up for classes.
