Bike Cleveland reps, bicyclists to meet with CLE police to avoid tickets during Critical Mass

CLEVELAND - Representatives for Critical Mass and Bike Cleveland are set to meet with Cleveland police officials sometime next week, according to the executive director for Bike Cleveland Jacob VanSickle.

The meeting is being scheduled to discuss the city's concerns with Critical Mass and how they can avoid situations like last week.

Last Friday, May 30, at least three riders were ticketed during the monthly ride.

Critical Mass meets monthly for bicycle rides throughout Cleveland. Friday's event had 666 riders, according to the group's Facebook page, and though the group regularly "corks" intersections — blocking it to allow the whole group to pass at once, even if the stoplight turns red — no one remembers a ticket being issued in years.

A date has been set for the meeting just yet.
