'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' attracts mixed reviews

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues opened Wednesday to mixed - but mostly positive - reviews.

Everyone seemed to agree on one thing: this is a silly, silly movie.

The long-awaited sequel to Will Ferrell's silly take on the local news business in the 1970s scored 75 percent from critics and 78 from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which scores movies based on reviews posted on the web.

"For every minute spent laughing, there's 10 seconds spent suppressing your disappointment and a further 10 milliseconds banishing a tiny suspicion that even A1 maybe wasn't quite as good as you remembered it," wrote Peter Bradshaw at The Guardian.

Roger Ebert was a bit harsher, awarding the movie 2 out of 5 stars. "There are a handful of strong sequences … But these are bright spots in a film that's just a couple of notches above an off-brand 'SNL' time-waster."

The Washington Post said that the movie promises "plenty of laughs and plenty of groans." And USA Today  called it "wacky fun."
