SANDUSKY, Ohio -- On Sunday, Cedar Point visitors will able to take their first ride on the park's newest roller coaster.
The Top Thrill Dragster is the tallest, faster coaster in the world. It goes 420 feet into the air and back down at 120 mph. NewsChannel5's Linda Passariello got the chance Thursday to ride the Top Thrill Dragster a couple of days early. After Mother Nature stalled the media day opening of the coaster Thursday morning because of lightning, the weather cleared up and the ride was up and running. Passariello and photographer Gary Abrahamsen rode in the first car of the coaster and captured the 17-second ride on videotape.
The train of cars blasted out of the tunnel and straight up the 420-foot hill at top speed. As the cars rounded the peak and came down the hill, there was a twist going down. Passariello was so nervous that she ripped Abrahamsen's shirt during the ride. She said afterward that it felt like her contact lenses got lost inside her eyes and that it was like an "instant facelift." However frightening the ride was, she said she'd like to ride it 10 more times. Lines at this weekend's opening to the public are likely to be hours long, but most roller coaster enthusiasts will say the wait is well worth the thrill, NewsChannel5 reported.
