Rock Hall To Open Exhibit Telling Story Of Woodstock

CLEVELAND -- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of the most significant eras in rock and roll.The new exhibit "WOODSTOCK: The 40th Anniversary" will open July 3 in the museum's Ahmet M. Ertegun Main Exhibit Hall.Over the course of a weekend, The Woodstock Music and Art Fair defined a generation and validated a movement of peace and music. Future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and others performed during the legendary weekend of Aug. 15-17, 1969.Visitors to the exhibit can see the vest designed and worn during the festival by Michael Lang, the co-founder and producer of the Woodstock weekend. The exhibit will also feature John Sebastian's tie-dyed cape and jacket that he wore during his solo five-song set; the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young performance contract; the original hand-written plan for the festival and many other artifacts.Nearly 500,000 people attended the 1969 show, and another 1.5 million were stalled in their attempts by the size of the crowds. The New York State Thruway was shut down.Along with the exhibit, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will also celebrate the anniversary of Woodstock with a weekend-long series of events Aug. 22-24.The 40th anniversary exhibit will run until Nov. 29.Visit rockhall.com for more details.
