History Of Geauga Lake

1889: The first ride, a steam-powered carousel, opens.
1925: The Big Dipper, a wooden roller coaster, is built.
1941: A tornado injures six people and damages the Big Dipper.
1969: Funtime Inc. buys the park and begins expansion.
1988: Park opens the Raging Wolf Bobs coaster for its centennial.
1995: Premier Parks Inc. buys the park.
1999: Geauga Lake changes name to Six Flags Ohio.
2000: Four new roller coasters open.
2001: Six Flags buys Sea World and combines the two parks.
2004: Cedar Fair buys the park and changes name to Geauga Lake.
2005: Cedar Fair builds Wildwater Kingdom.
2007: Cedar Fair announces Geauga Lake will close and water park will stay open.
