AURORA, Ohio -- Geauga Lake announced last week it is closing the amusement park. Now many people are wondering what will replace the roller coasters, and what happen to the 400 acres the park sits on. Residents addressed their concerns about the park and Wildwater Kingdom at a meeting Monday night with Geauga Lake's former manager. "How many years do you plan on having the waterpark before you decide to sell that, too?" asked one resident. "I helped develop the project for Wildwater Kingdom for next year. That's proprietary and I can't at this point talk about that," said General Manager and Vice President Bill Spehn.Members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts went to the meeting to find out the future of the park. Instead they said they walked away with more questions than answers."I moved to Oberline Township about a year ago. I was excited about being in the back yard of Geauga Lake. My kids have been going and now they're saying what happened. I think you're going to hear that a lot," said Richard Munch. He asked if there were plans to expand the park or if the rumors about future condos were true. Spehn said the company hired a consulting firm but wouldn't confirm anything. Spehn also pointed out that he's now only in charge of Wildwater Kingdom and its success is important to him."My kids are in school, in the school system. I want to stay here," Spehn said. Township Trustees said the property is zoned commercial. However, there are restrictions. They said park leaders will have to go before the zoning board before making any changes.
