Fans Pick State For Simpsons' Springfield

Competition Was Between 14 Springfields

POSTED: 3:01 pm EDT July 10, 2007

The Simpsons finally have a Springfield that they can call their own -- or at least a place to premiere their new film.

Springfield, Vt., was the top vote-getter in a national contest in conjunction with the upcoming release of "The Simpsons Movie," sponsored by USA Today.

Of the 14 Springfields across the U.S. that took part, the video submitted by the Vermont town picked up the most votes among the more than 109,000 people who cast ballots online.

As part of the competition, each city produced a video promoting why that community should get the nod.

The winning Springfield will host the hometown premiere of "The Simpsons Movie" on July 26.

The movie is based on the long-running Fox animated series, which debuted in 1989.
