Rain Blamed For Coaster Accident At Cedar Point

Ride Reopened Monday

Rain on the tracks is to blame for Saturday's accident involving Cedar Point's Magnum XL-200 roller coaster, amusement park officials said.

The magnum was shut down after one train hit another at about 10 mph, slightly injuring three people.

Fifty-nine people were on board the trains. Two passengers were treated and released at a first aid center. One was taken to a local hospital with asthma problems, officials said.

"Safety is our No. 1 priority here," said spokesman Bryan Edwards.

The Magnum had never had an accident before, officials said.

The roller coaster reopened Monday.

The Magnum, a steel coaster with a 205-foot drop and a top speed of 72 mph, was the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster when it debuted in 1989.
