Bo Derek Hits Half-Century Mark

POSTED: 7:18 am EST November 20, 2006

She was considered a 10. And many still think she is.

But now, Bo Derek is also another number: 50.

Derek has no problem with hitting the half-century mark. She said it's the perfect opportunity to have a big party and get lots of presents.

Derek said she likes anything that comes in "pretty boxes." Derek said she expects to have "the best time" of her life partying with her friends.

Bo was born "Mary Cathleen Collins" Nov. 20, 1956, in Long Beach, Calif.

She said she never planned to be a model, according to her Web site. She figured that she would end up working in a surf shop -- since she was always near the water. Her father was a boat salesman.

But at age 15, she got a modeling job in Hawaii. She went on to do commercials, then movies. And, as they say, the rest is history.

She was married to John Derek from 1976 until his death in 1998. She is now dating and living with actor John Corbett -- of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Sex in the City" fame.
