Student Fights For Custody Of Son He Had With Teacher

UPDATED: 3:31 pm EST February 21, 2006

The custody fight began Tuesday between a local high school teacher and one of her students.

While substitute teaching at Strongsville High School, Christine Scarlett, 39, had an affair with the 17-year-old football captain, Steven Bradigan, NewsChannel5 reported.

That affair led to a 2-year-old son.

Tuesday, Scarlett and Bradigan met again in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, fighting for custody of that child.

The boy is currently in Scarlett's custody, but the now 20-year-old Bradigan wants his son with him.

Scarlett's attorney said that however heated the drama gets, it's important to remember one thing.

"It's about a 2-year-old child and this is the best place to have the best interest of that child determined," said attorney Eric Laubacher.

The custody battle continues May 17 in court.
