CLEVELAND -- Cleveland school teachers have been asking for extra security in schools for quite a while, now it seems they will get their wish. However, this time the security will be added to keep an eye on the teachers. Twenty-three laid-off security guards have been recalled to make sure teachers don't take school property from 22 buildings facing shutdowns in June. Security officers have been directed to check any packages taken from schools by teachers. Anything that might be school property must be cleared by the principal. The teachers union president calls the practice outrageous. Word of the searches comes as school officials in Cleveland struggle to restore order amid a series of violent incidents.Last week an assistant principal was knocked unconscious by a thrown chair during a student fight.
