School Locks Down After Teen Allegedly Sends Threatening E-Mail

Police Arrest Former Massillon Student, 15

POSTED: 6:51 pm EDT April 7, 2005

A Stark County school was put on lockdown earlier this week because of serious threats made by a former student, police said.

Massillon High School
Police arrested the former Massillon High School student in question Wednesday night.

NewsChannel5 reported that authorities wanted to make sure the 15-year-old boy didn't follow through with his plans.

Massillon schools security chief Chuck Maier said the boy was making threats over the Internet about having a weapon and having an alleged hit list.

Maier put the school on lockdown Monday. Only the front doors remained unlocked, and plenty of police officers were on hand.

Maier said an e-mail sent by the teenage suspect gave the impression that he had a death wish both to kill and to be killed.

"Basically he said that he had some people he wanted to take care of, and he said he had a 9 mm with 13 bullets," said Maier.

Maier said the e-mail didn't specify whether he intended to harm students or teachers.

The lockdown was lifted after police found and arrested the boy, but some parents said they were left in the dark about the lockdown.

"I didn't find out until early this morning that they locked down the building down Monday ... we need to know what's going on in these schools," said parent Juanita Roush.

The school's principal said that initially they only had rumors and speculation to work with, and Maier said he didn't want people to panic.

This is not the first incident authorities had with the boy, NewsChannel5 reported.

A few months ago he left the school while his mother and principal followed him.

When things got out of control, police subdued the boy with a Taser gun.
