CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio -- About 200 students walked out of Cuyahoga Falls High School Tuesday to protest the latest round of teacher layoff notices. Several teachers were given their notices Monday as the district cuts 47 teachers and 13 tutors to try to close a nearly $4 million budget gap, NewsChannel5 reported. "The principal came in in the middle of class, in my fifth period class and told my teacher and we had to watch my teacher break down and cry. They should do that after school, not during class when we're supposed to be learning," one student said.
SLIDESHOW: Students Walk Out Superintendent Ed Holland said the school will be on lockdown for the next few days and students who refused to return to class will face disciplinary action. The crowd of students spent much of the day walking several miles to various schools across the district, protesting the jobs cuts and the closing of two schools. This is the second protest involving Summit County students. Last month, police pepper sprayed some Hudson High School students after the students walked out of class. The students were protesting the firing of the school's principal.
