Boozy T-shirts Get Students Tanked

45 Students Suspended For 'Class Of .08' Shirt

Just about every senior high school class tries to push the limit, but students from Stevenson High School in Livonia, Mich., are accused of going too far.

The controversy is over a T-shirt that read, "Puschin' It To The Limit" and on the back it reads, "Class of .08 Seniors," Detroit station WDIV reported.

The first is a play on Busch beer and the second refers to Michigan's blood-alcohol limit for drivers.

Some believe the T-shirt sends the wrong message, possibly encouraging classmates to take a dangerous risk.

School officials said 45 seniors were suspended for wearing the shirt, which was designed by one of their classmates.

Student body president Brittnay Wilk said, "There was a lot of different ways it could be taken, but I'm pretty sure everyone knows that the message of the shirt related to underage drinking."

Students insist they are not promoting drinking, but the principal has made up his mind.

The students involved will have to earn back the privilege of going to the prom and walking during graduation.

A school district spokesperson said students must learn choices have consequences, especially since they were already warned twice in writing.

The principal sent a letter home to parents and students in April to warn them that there would be consequences to their actions, especially with prom and commencement around the corner.

According to school officials, the principal heard about the content of the T-shirts two weeks ago and sent out a similar note in e-mail form to the students and their parents.

"With prom and graduation also come concerns with parents, I know as a parent myself and from staff that students make safe choices especially when it comes to drinking," said Donna McDowell of Livonia Public Schools.

Some juniors also got into trouble for the shirt they designed and wore to school.
