The winter storm that started early Christmas morning in the southwest corner of the state has claimed at least 12 lives, including three children and an 18-year-old woman.
Here’s a look at the fatalities, by state:
Arkansas (3): A 53-year-old Rayville man was killed on Tuesday when a tree fell on his house. Two children, ages 1 and 2, in a car died Wednesday when their vehicle crossed the center line on a sleet-slickened highway and struck an SUV head-on.
Virginia (2): A 14-year-old girl was killed Wednesday in Campbell County when a vehicle in which she was riding ran off the road and hit a tree. Also Wednesday, a 35-year-old Covington woman was killed in Botetourt County when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a second vehicle in Eagle Rock.
Indiana (2): A 42-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were killed when the scooter they were riding went out of control on a snowy Evansville street Wednesday and they were hit by a pickup truck.
Oklahoma (2): Both on Tuesday, a 28-year-old woman was killed a in a crash on a snowy highway near Fairview and a 76-year-old Wisconsin woman died in a head-on crash near Kewaskum.
Texas (1): On Tuesday, a 25-year-old Harris County man died when a tree fell on him as he was working to clear other toppled trees, Click2Houston.com reported.
Pennsylvania (1): A 60-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio, man died Wednesday night near Allentown, Pa., when he got out of his vehicle to check on a disabled vehicle on Interstate 78.
Ohio (1): Authorities are blaming the bad weather for a crash that killed an 18-year-old girl who lost control of her car Wednesday afternoon and smashed into an oncoming snow plow on a highway northeast of Cincinnati.
