CLEVELAND - NewsChannel5 sent photographer Rich Geyser out to capture Tuesday night's rare blue moon.
Turns out, a blue moon isn't actually blue.
The Aug. 20 moon happens to be a seasonal blue moon, meaning the third of four full moons in a season.
The next seasonal blue moon is May 2016.
Blue moon can also refer to the second full moon in a solar calendar month. But you’ll have to wait until July 2015 to see one of those.
There are times when the moon can appear blue, and even green or red. The Weather Channel said that usually happens when a volcano erupts since light reflecting off the ash looks a different color.
Share your blue moon photos on Instagram using the hashtag #Insta5news or post them on our Facebook page .
