CLEVELAND - It all began on May 25. That day, we hit 90 degrees in Cleveland for the first time this year.
Since that day, we've added to those numbers. In fact, as of this past weekend, we've hit the 90 degree mark 26 times in Cleveland. That's almost a full month of 90 degree temperatures.
In May, we had two days of 90-plus heat. In June, seven days.
In July, a whopping 11 days. July went down in the record books as the second hottest July on record.
So far, August 2012 has added six days to our 90-degree tally.
To give you an idea, normally we only see about nine 90-degree days each year, so we are well above average.
The all-time record for 90 degree days in Cleveland happened twice: in 1951, and then shortly thereafter in 1955. During those years, we saw an incredible 37 90-degree days. The summer of 1988, which many of us remember as the hottest, saw 35 days.
