Some still without power in northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND - UPDATE 6 p.m. : This evening power has been restored to South Euclid which had unexpectedly lost power to hundreds of FirstEnergy customers this afternoon. 

FirstEnergy now reports a total of 416 customers still without power county-wide in Cuyahoga. There are 13 customers without power in Lorain, 5 in Medina, 6 in Geauga, 58 in Lake counties. Akron currently has 5 homes reporting not having power. Brunswick Hills is also reporting 5 still without power.

Cities estimated to be restored Monday by Ohio Edison are : Avon, Avon Lake, Bay Village, Brooklyn, Brooklyn, Brookpark, Cleveland Heights, East Cleveland, Euclid, Fairview Park, Lakewood, Lyndhurst, Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted, Rocky River, Seven Hills, South Euclid, Westlake, and Willoughby. 

Lakewood mayor Michael Summers stated Monday afternoon that all of Lakewood's polling places have power and will be open for voting at their normal start and end times.

"It's a good thing the election didn't happen last week. We'd be in a world of hurt. But this week that is not the case, " said Summers.

Lakewood hopes to have all voters with power to their homes Monday night, as well.

A utility company reports there are more than 1,500 power outages remaining in northeastern Ohio from last week's storm.

FirstEnergy said Monday morning that crews were still working to restore electricity to a little more than 900 homes and businesses still affected.

As of 3:25 p.m. Monday, more than 1,600 Cuyahoga County FirstEnergy customers did not have electricity. Most of those are in South Euclid.

Around 250,000 Ohio electricity customers were left in the dark after high winds from superstorm Sandy's outer bands uprooted trees and brought down power lines early last Tuesday.

Cleveland officials have warned residents to watch for downed wires that could be a safety risk. A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition last week after touching a power line brought down by the storm.
