WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama says it will take time to recover from Hurricane Irene and he pledged the federal government would be doing everything in its power to ensure people have what they need to get back on their feet.
The president noted that the effects of Irene are still being felt in much of the country, especially New England and states like Vermont where there's been enormous flooding.
He said the response continues and promised to make sure the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other agencies do what they can to help people on the ground.
Obama spoke Monday in the Rose Garden before announcing an economic appointment as the country got back to work after the weekend storm.
