Winter Weather Advisory for Ashtabula County from 1am tonight through 7pm Friday. A light coating of freezing rain is possible toward dawn with 2-5" of snow possible during the afternoon Friday.
10:00 pm Update: Cloud will thicken up tonight ahead of the next and final Alberta Clipper weather system. Evening temperatures will hover in the middle and upper 30s with dry conditions. Precipitation in the form of rain will arrive after midnight tonight. With temperatures expected to be a degree or two above freezing for most of us, I am not very concerned about freezing rain and ice. The exception could be Lake, Northern Geauga, & Ashtabula Counties where temperatures could drop below freezing for a few hours before dawn. A very light coating of ice is possible there before temperatures warm up enough for just rain.
Rain is likely for the Friday morning rush hour. Temperatures should be in the middle 30s. The cold front arrives quickly by 9 am. That means rain will change over to snow from west to east. Driving will become slick from mid morning thru at least early afternoon as a burst of moderate snow blankets the area with up to 2 inches of snow. The main snow band should be along the Ohio- Pennsylvania line by noon. Scattered snow showers will rotate in behind the front thru the afternoon and evening. Total snow thru midnight Friday should be in the 1-3" range in most spots, with a few areas east of Cleveland seeing up to 5 inches. Temperatures thru the afternoon will drop back into the middle 20s.
12:41 pm Update: Temperatures are finally above freezing! Temperatures are rising through the middle 30s to near 40º under a partly sunny sky. Break our the sunglasses this afternoon but don't get used to it. Our sunshine is gone tomorrow. We'll start the day with rain switching to sleet then snow for the morning commute so be sure to add extra time to your morning commute Friday and wake up early to get the latest weather and traffic conditions on Good Morning Cleveland.
11:00 am Update: Clouds have cleared in southwest Ohio and sunshine will gradually reach us later this afternoon. Temperatures will be warmer, in the mid-to-upper 30s.
Rain is still on track for the Friday morning commute, followed by snow shortly after rush hour. Snow totals will range from 1-3" by Friday afternoon.
Snow is passing north of Lake Erie this morning, but a few snow showers may brush Northeast Ohio. If you see any snow, it will be light and short-lived, mainly in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula Counties.
Morning temperatures are in the teens and 20s under mostly cloudy skies.
Clouds will partially clear afternoon, with warmer temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30s.
As a cold front approaches tonight, rain is likely after midnight through the morning rush Friday. When colder air arrives behind the front, rain will change to snow from west to east. Expect the changeover after 8 p.m. Scattered snow showers will continue through late afternoon.
Saturday will be dry and cool. Look for partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 20s.
Much warmer air arrives Sunday. Highs will jump to the 40s with increasing clouds. Rain returns late Sunday through the morning rush Monday. A cold front will pass, dropping temperatures to the mid-30s Tuesday. Scattered lake effect snow showers are possible east of Cleveland.
