CLEVELAND - Winter Weather ADVISORY for ALL of NORTHERN OHIO from 6am to 2pm Friday.
10:45 pm Update: DISRUPTIVE WEATHER POSSIBLE FRIDAY MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON. A wintry mix of precipitation will move into our viewing area beginning early Friday morning. It looks to begin as a mix of freezing rain, sleet, wet snow and rain as it moves north during the pre-dawn hours on Friday, most likely between 5 & 8am. The icy mix is expected to change over to rain during the afternoon as temperatures warm above 32 degrees. While the precipitation is not expected to be heavy, nor long lasting, any freezing rain that falls will result in a glaze of ice on untreated surfaces.
Current forecasts suggest the wintry mix will arrive from wouthwest to Northeast between 4am and 8am. If the freezing rain is on-going during the Friday moring Rush Hours, then school delays and perhaps a closing or two are possible.
12:56 pm Update: Temperatures are slowly creeping into the 20s this afternoon and will only touch the middle 20s before sunset. Don't expect a big cool down overnight though, we'll actually warm a few degrees. Along with warmer air comes moisture. Plan on snow by sunrise followed by sleet and freezing rain before noon. Wake up extra early and tune into Good Morning Cleveland for the latest on road coditions
10:00 am Update: Light snow and flurries will continue as northerly winds flow across Lake Erie. Temperatures are still in the upper teens and will be slow to rise this afternoon. A few breaks of sun are possible later today. We're still watching a mix of snow and freezing rain after 7 a.m. Friday. Please check back for updates later today!
Cold air moving across Lake Erie will keep lake effect snow in the forecast this morning. Light snow will continue through the commute. Treated roads are in good shape, but side roads could get slick. Any new snow accumulation will be less than 1/2" through noon.
In addition to the light snow, temperatures are cold. We are starting the day in the teens and will only warm into the 20s. Winds will stay light but out of the north so wind chills will stay in the teens all day. Layer it on!
Warmer air is heading our way for the end of the work-week along with more wintry weather. Overnight, temperatures will warm into the upper 20s before sunrise. Snow is possible early Friday, but as warmer air moves in, the snow will change over to freezing rain through the morning commute.
Temperatures will eventually jump into the upper 30s Friday afternoon. Plan on another round of rain for the evening commute but roads shouldn't be nearly as slick as you head home.
