Forecast: Lake effect snow, wind chills below zero again tonight

CLEVELAND - LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING for Ashtabula County through 10am Thursday. Expect an additonal 2-5 inches of snow tonight where squalls persist.

LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY for Lake & Geauga Counties thru 10 am Thursday. Expect an additonal 1-3 inches of new snow in scattered snow showers.

10:00 pm Update: Trough is now over Lake Erie. As the trough swings south overnight, the snow showers, currently out over Lake Erie will slide back inland. Where snow showers persist, you can expect a quick inch or two of snow by dawn. Up to 5 inches are possible in the snow belt east of Cleveland.

5:00 pm Update: Winds have shifted to the southwest a bit this afternoon out ahead of a weak trough that will slide through the region tonight. The heavy lake effect snows have ended for the moment. Temperatures are in the lower and middle teens and should stay there through 8pm. Wind chills will be around zero degrees. Bundle up!

Update: Current temperatures are in the single digits and low teens in Northeast Ohio. We'll only climb to 15 degrees today under mostly cloudy skies. Light lake effect snow showers will continue in eastern Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula Counties. Up to 3" of additional accumulation is possible where snow persists.

Morning temperatures are in the single digits across Northeast Ohio. The coldest spot is Wooster, Dover and Canton at 1 degree! Wind chills are still below zero. Chills could be up to 15 degrees below zero through early afternoon.

If you live east of Cleveland, lake effect snow will continue this morning. Expect snow covered roads and blowing/drifting snow during the morning commute. Up to 4" fell overnight in persistent squalls.

Light snow showers will continue this afternoon east of Cleveland. Most areas will be snow-free for the evening commute. High temperatures will only reach 15 degrees.

As a disturbance moves by overnight, expect a good chance of scattered snow near the lake. Overnight lows will be warmer, near 11 degrees.

Highs will barely reach 20 degrees Thursday under partly cloudy skies. Although morning snow showers are possible east of Cleveland, building high pressure will turn off snow showers by noon.

A quick moving low pressure system will cross southern Ohio Friday afternoon bringing a chance of snow. High temperatures will hit the low 20s. A few snow showers will linger into early Saturday.

Warmer weather is in store this weekend with highs climbing to the low 30s Sunday.

Finally, temperatures rise above average Monday and Tuesday. But it comes with a chance of rain each day.
