6pm Update: Watching some storms over lower Michigan and southern Canada diving south. Some of the storms are fading a bit as they reach Lake Erie, but are worth watching. Otherwise, sunny, hot and humid.

5:00 p.m. Update: Upper 80s along Ohio's beautiful beaches but still lower and middle 90s inland. Storms are starting to develop north of the lake and have started moving south. Expect this line of storms to start impacting northern Ohio near 7:00pm.

4:00 p.m. Update: Temperatures across the Great Lakes States are pushing the triple digits! Here is northeast Ohio we are hanging out in the middle 90s. The big thing with today is the humidity, dewpoints (which tells us about moisture in the air) are near 70º. That points to a very tropical airmass, very sticky with pop-up t-storms likely. Starting to see development north of the lake, west of Ohio and south of the viewing area. More will likely spark in our backyard this evening.

3:00 p.m. Update: Getting hotter. Lake Erie's beaches are holding in the upper 80s to near 90 but areas inland are well into the 90s. Heat index readings are as high as 102º. Be sure to stay hydrated and don't over do it. Enjoy this heat safely!

2:00 p.m. Update: Thermometers across the region have into the lower and middle 90s! Heat index readings are ranging from 96º to 103º. Do not take this heat lightly. Stay hydrated, find some shade, don't over do it and check up on the elderly.

Despite the heat, storms are still in the forecast today. If you are away from your TV, our new App is a great way to stay informed about the weather. Read all about it on  newsnet5.com/stormshield

1:00 p.m. Update: Temperatures are already in the 90s across the state with heat index reading close to 100! With all the heat and humidity, and a weak upper level wave moving out way, the entire viewing area is under a slghit risk of severe storms. Expect scattered storms to develop late afternoon/early evening.

Get ready to bake on this Independence Day! It will be one of the hottest and most humid days of the week with highs near 95 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in effect for all counties from noon until 9 p.m. Heat plus high humidity will make it feel like 100+.

Remember your heat safety tips today: Wear light-colored clothing, a hat, sunblock and drink plenty of water.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible again today. Northeast Ohio is under a slight risk of severe weather. Some of the storms may produce large hail and damaging wind gusts. Please check back for the latest updates online and on your phone before you go outside!

For fireworks tonight, expect muggy temperatures in the upper 80s. It's too early to tell if any lingering thunderstorm activity will be in the area, so I can't rule out the chance of storms tonight.

Hot weather continues Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid-90s. Rain chances are limited at the end of the week as high pressure sits overhead.

After one more hot day Saturday, a cold front will cross the Great Lakes late Saturday night. Look for scattered showers and thunderstorms along the front.

By Sunday, you'll notice cooler, more comfortable temperatures. Highs will hit the low-to-mid 80s through early next week.
