Forecast: Cold front, storms will bring relief to Ohio Wednesday

CLEVELAND -

10:31 pm Update: Computer forecasts keep most of the big storms out of NEOhio tomorrow. Hmmm. We will wait for later updates.

10:00 pm Update: Storms developing now from Lake Erie Islands south to Bellville. Moving southeast at 20 mph.

9:55 pm Update:  Heat Advisory expires. No other alerts in effect.

9:51 pm Update: Slight risk for severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon. Damaging winds and large hail the main threat.  Storms will develop primarily during the afternoon hours. Evening plans could be dampened by rain and thunder! Stay tuned.

6:00 pm Update: Temperatures for the area today: Cleveland high and low was 98/76. This breaks the old record high of 96 degrees on this date in 1942.  Akron/Canton's Regional Airport saw 97/71. Mansfield's high and low temperatures today: 96/73. Akron/Canton's record high for today is 99 degree. Mansfield's record high is 101 degrees.

5:09 pm Update: Current temperature in Cleveland is 98 degrees! Akron is 96; Mansfield is 95 degrees!

4:20 pm Update: Hot, hot, hot through the evening hours! Temperatures will hang in the 90s through 7pm. Lows tonight will drop into the low to mid 70s with partly cloudy skies. An isolated storm is possible after midnight.

Relief arrives late tomorrow in the form of a cold front. The front will spread clouds into the area during the day. Scattered thunderstorms are most likely during the afternoon. A few of the storms could contain damaging winds and large hail. Highs on Wednesday will climb back up to near 90 degrees.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the following counties from noon until 9pm today.

NWS CLE reports 98 at 214pm today. Record breaking heat in CLE.

97 in CLE. New record. Old record is 96 set back in 1942.

Temps are now into the middle 90s across the area. CLE is at 94, CAK at 95, Mansfield 94. Hot and humid - slow down.

Heat plus high humidity will make afternoon temperatures feel like 100 to 104 degrees. Please make sure you stay hydrated, check on neighbors without air conditioning and don't forget about your pets!

Today's record highs:
Cleveland: 96º
Youngstown: 98º
Akron/Canton: 99º
Toledo: 99º
Mansfield: 101º

Cleveland may tie or break the record high today. Toledo will also come close to the record. Look for mostly sunny skies and only an isolated chance of a thunderstorm. It will be breezy this afternoon.

A few thunderstorms are possible overnight with lows near 74 degrees.

A cold front arrives Wednesday, producing scattered showers and storms in the afternoon and evening. Some of the storms east of Cleveland could be strong to severe with large hail and damaging wind gusts. We'll be watching!

By Thursday, strong high pressure builds overhead, bringing sunshine and temperatures in the low 80s. Highs in the low 80s stick around through Saturday. Temperatures warm to the upper 80s Sunday.
