INDEPENDENCE, Ohio - A water main break in Independence has closed Brecksville Road to all traffic between Pleasant Valley and Hillside roads and left some homes without water..
The break was first discovered just before 2:30 a.m. Friday. The break is just north of the Brecksville Pleasant Valley road intersection and is not affecting traffic on Pleasant Valley.
Water is coming up through several cracks in the asphalt and the roadway is buckled.
The Cleveland Water Department was on scene around 3:15 a.m
They shut off a valve hoping that will help contain the water main break.
Crews are currently continuing to make repairs. Cleveland Water said Chestnut Road is closed Brecksfield to Ashwood and Brookside Road is closed from Brecksville to Denia.
One northbound lane and two southbound lanes on Brecksville Road open between Hillside and Pleasant Valley Road.
Canal Road north of Pleasant Valley is already closed so police said this main break will make traffic worse.
Independence police said they just had a water main break Thursday on Chestnut but this one is much worse.
12 residential homes are without water, according to Cleveland Water.
The cost of the repairs is unknown.
