COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers made more traffic stops and impaired driving and drug arrests this Memorial Day weekend compared to the holiday weekend in 2011.

Patrol traffic stops increased more than 13 percent, OVI arrests increased nearly 2 percent and drug arrests were up nearly 15 percent.

Aggressive driving arrests, which include following too close, failure to yield, improper passing, passing a stopped school bus and reckless operation, increased more than 40 percent.

However, total crash investigations were down more than 6 percent. Eleven people lost their lives over the weekend, which is a four-year low for the reporting period.

The four-day reporting period began Friday, May 25 and ran through Monday, May 28.
