CLEVELAND - Traffic congestion is about to get even messier at a popular downtown Cleveland intersection.

Tuesday night, crews will make a major traffic switch at the Carnegie/Ontario Intersection. They will limit Ontario to two lanes in each direction and drivers will not be able to turn left onto Carnegie. The Ohio Department of Transportation is advising motorists to avoid this intersection, one of the area's busiest, because of the possible traffic tie-ups.

"We know that the first day of construction is always the worst so beware," said ODOT Spokesperson Jocelynn Clemings.

"That that is going to be there, specifically in your morning rush hour and use some patience and of course some great alternate routes like E. 14th Street, E. 9th Street or even E. 22nd Street," she said.

In addition the intersection as a whole will close from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

This is just one small phase of the overall Innerbelt Bridge project. These restrictions are expected to continue until mid-to-late October, when work on the intersection is complete.
