CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio - Police in Cleveland Heights said a medical emergency appears to have caused an unusual accident where a car drove through a half-mile of front yards before crashing into a garage.
It happened at about 2 a.m. Monday on Rossmoor Road.
Officers said the driver of an SUV had just turned from Cedar Road when the medical emergency happened and he swerved off the roads and through at least 10 yards, weaving between trees and brick fixtures.
The car eventually hit a garage and the side of a house. Two people were home at the time, but were not hurt. The homeowner’s daughter rushed to the scene to check on her elderly mother.
"It’s unbelievable. The driver of the vehicle… if you look down the yard was clearly within inches of all of these homes almost from Cedar Road all the way until he hit my mother’s house, so narrowly missing all of these trees and brick entry ways. I can’t believe he maneuvered to get this far then he got out of the vehicle,” said Gail Goldfarb.
Police said the driver disappeared after the accident. Officers looked for him for about 30 minutes before he emerged from the bushes, confused and disoriented.
The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Even though this crash was the result of a medical emergency, police said the driver may be cited for the accident.
