VERMILION TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A portion of State Route 2, between State Route 61 and State Route 60 in Lorain County, was closed Tuesday due to a suspicious item located near the road.
The Ohio Department of Transportation said it found what appears to be a pipe bomb in the grass. It was located along SR 2 at mile marker 27.6 in Vermilion Township.
The item was found and reported at around 11:22 a.m. Tuesday. The Lorain County Bomb Squad was called to the scene.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the device turned out to not be a pipe bomb. Investigators said it was a 1-foot long PVC pipe with glued end caps and a wire hanging out. It's being sent out for analysis.
Both the eastbound and westbound lanes were closed for nearly two hours. Crews reopened all lanes shortly before 2 p.m.
