COLUMBUS, Ohio - A 27-year-old ODOT worker is dead after being struck by a semi on Interstate 71 in Delaware County.
The crash happened on the northbound side of the highway near mile post 124 Monday morning.
ODOT said their worker, Lee Rizor, was operating a backhoe on the right berm when a semi drove off the right side of the roadway, striking the backhoe.
The semi flipped before going up in flames.
Rizor was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi Dwayne Allen Hill Sr., 59, of Ashland, Va., was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Interstate 71 is closed northbound at the I-270 interchange in both directions and will remain shutdown for the next several hours. ODOT is urging southbound drivers to use U.S. 23 and U.S. 42 as alternates.
This crash remains under investigation.
