Flashing yellow arrow bound for Ohio intersections

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Ohio is getting ready to introduce motorists to a new type of traffic light to help them navigate busy intersections.
Federal officials want states and communities to add a flashing yellow arrow to traffic signals to give drivers a clearer indication that they may turn left, cautiously.
Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman David Rose said that yellow arrows could begin showing up in the state next year. He expects they'll be installed as part of major renovations or new construction.
Rose says a public education campaign will be launched before Ohio sees its first flashing yellow arrow.
He also says guidelines about the new signal will be added to the next update of the state's traffic control device manual, in December.
