Traveling? If so, you’re more at risk for theft and privacy crimes. From unoccupied luggage, to distracted travelers, here’s The 5 Travelers Mistakes That Put You at Risk.
Hotel Safety
1. When checking in, make sure you have a card from the front desk with the hotel’s name, address and phone number. Keep this information on you at all times.
2. Reserve a room on a higher floor near the elevator but away from emergency exits, stairwells, and any renovation work. Also, never accept a room if the clerk loudly calls out your name and room number.
3. Once inside your room, make sure the door has a peephole and deadbolt. If it does not, make sure you don’t open the door to someone you don’t know.
4. Pack light so you don’t become overwhelmed with bags which would make you an ideal target for pickpockets. Avoid expensive looking baggage and clothing. Finally, make certain to lock all suitcases.
5. NEVER use your home address on luggage tags. Use your office address and -- if possible -- mark it gender neutral. Example: A. Smith, instead of Ms. Alice Smith.
