CLEVELAND - There's no relief in the cost of a gallon gas this January, as AAA said both gasoline and crude oil prices are at historic highs for this time of year.
The national average for regular gas rose four cents a gallon last week to $3.39 -- up 11 cents so far this month. Ohio's average is $3.49.
And these surging January gas prices could signal dicey year ahead.
AAA said we can thank crude oil prices hovering around $100 a barrel, plus repeal of the ethanol tax credit. Crude oil prices have pushed up from $76 a barrel in October because of increased global demand and optimism about the U.S. economic recovery.
Locally, here's a few stations we found that were both a few pennies less and more than the state median for the day:
Akron---South Main and Waterloo Sheetz $3.45 and Speedway $3.45
Independence---Rockside Road Shell $3.55 and Sunoco $3.55
