Walsh Jesuit swimmer Danielle Margheret is student athlete of the week

AKRON, Ohio - In the pool with the Walsh Jesuit swim team and senior Danielle Margheret. 

This ex-soccer player was the goalie for the 2010 high school women state and national soccer championship team, but she gave up soccer for swimming.

In 2011, she was the state champion in the 100 meter breaststroke and the state record holder in that event.  Danielle is a two-time, All-American in swimming and an Olympic trial qualifier.

"To see her progress and come into school at a 1:12 and be 10 seconds faster in the 100 breaststroke in four years and make the Olympic trials is a pleasure on my part and a pleasure on my mind to see her do well," said head swimming coach Wally Lutkus.

"The long term goal is to get a spot on the Olympic team for Rio, but I'm working hard everyday to be able to do that. I'm taking it day by day and working my hardest," said Danielle.

By working her hardest in the pool and in school as a member of National Honor Society with a 4.1 grade point average, she will be swimming for Notre Dame University next year. She plans to major in pre-med. 

Danielle is also excels artistically. She is a lead vocalist in show choir and she was able to sing the National Anthem at the state swimming championships the last two years.  She also sang the National Anthem at two professional soccer games for the Cleveland City Stars.
