Soccer and rugby player Monica Adams of Lakewood High School is student athlete of the week

LAKEWOOD, Ohio - It's rugby time with the lady Rangers of Lakewood High School and senior Monica Adams. 

Monica has a 4.28 grade point average and is a member of National Honor Society. But don't be fooled by her academic record, she's a hard-nosed soccer player who loves to play tough sports.

"Which also encourage me to play rugby because it also a really tough sport and I think a lot of the skills you use in rugby are also applicable to soccer," said Monica.

With her style of playing, Monica also has a very positive attitude in any situation.

"We nicknamed her 'Smiley' because you can hardly every catch her without a smile on her face. It's a full-contact sport; no matter how hard she's gets hit or falls or how bad training is, Monica is always smiling and laughing and she just sees the good side of everything," said head girls rugby coach Andre Bruwer.
