STUDENT ATHLETE OFFICIAL RULES
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY
Open only to legal residents of Ohio, who currently attend a high school located within the Cleveland DMA (within the following counties: Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Cuyahoga, Eire, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas, Wayne ) and are at least 14 years of age at the time of entry. Entrants who have not maintained an attendance record at their high school of 90 percent or have a grade point average below 2.0 are ineligible.
Void wherever prohibited by law. Employees of Scripps Media, Inc., their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, suppliers (collectively, “Sponsor”) and the immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by the Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor.
TO ENTER: Contest begins 12/27/10 and ends 12/25/11 ("Contest Period.). To enter, go to http://www.newsnet5.com/subindex/sports/local_sports/student_athlete_of_the_week and follow the on-screen instructions. Entry must contain student's name, sport, grade point average, other activities, address and phone; school name, address and phone; principal's name and phone. Entry must contain an essay of 200 words or less that explains why the student should be deemed the Athlete of the Week. Each week during the Contest Period, the judges will choose a weekly winner from all eligible entries received as of 12:01 p.m. each Wednesday during the Contest Period.
Limit one entry per person/email address during the Contest Period. No mechanically reproduced entries of any kind permitted. Illegible and incomplete entries are void. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, mutilated or entries not received. In the event of a dispute over who submitted an online entry, the entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail account identified on the online entry form. The authorized account holder is deemed to be the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, service provider, or online organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. Entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned.
WINNER SELECTION: Winners will be selected by a panel of judges based on the following criteria, from all eligible entries received. The eligible entries will be screened and judged under the supervision of Sponsor using the following criteria: Athletic achievement (25%), academic achievement (25%), citizenship (25%), contribution to society (25%). The top scoring entry will be the winner.
If a tie occurs, then highest score in the athletic achievement criterion will determine winner. One male and one female student will be recognized each week. Information contained on entry will be verified with school principal, and if necessary, other individuals. Decisions of Judges are final on all matters. Non-winning entries will be eligible for subsequent weekly contests. Winners will be notified by phone. Limit one prize per person/email address. Odds of winning will depend upon the number of eligible entries received.
PRIZES: Each weekly winner will be featured in an on-air segment of recognition. The on-air segment that features the Weekly winner will air on the Wednesday subsequent to the close date of the weekly contest. Whether the segment will actually air is solely within the discretion of Sponsor. Winner will not have right to review or approve segment. (ARV: there is no monetary value). Prizes consist of only those items specifically listed as part of the prize. No substitution or transfer/assignment of prize by winners permitted.
All federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of winners. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Potential winners (or parent/legal guardian if potential winner is a minor in his/her state of residence) may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability/Prize Acceptance Form, which may require social security number, postmarked within 10 days of the date on notification materials. Noncompliance within this time period and/or return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and an alternate potential winner may be selected by random draw from all remaining eligible entries. All winners must produce picture or some other form of proper identification to claim any prize.
Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any prize with prize of equal or greater value. Acceptance of any prize constitutes permission to the Sponsor to use winners’ name, voice, statements, image and likeness for purposes of advertising and trade, in any medium, without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
