Cleveland - Turfway Park will host the Spiral Stakes this weekend with a strong field contending for a purse totaling $550,000.
Experienced on the Churchill track and looking to get back there the first weekend of May, Uncaptured, will try to add this race to his list of credits. He has gone unraced this year but has won 6 out of his 7 career starts. He won the Kentucky Jockey Club last November at the 1 1/16 mile distance. He is trained by Mark Casse and will break from PP3. His current odds are 3/1.
Balance the Books grabbed the inside post after having placed 3 rd in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf race at Santa Anita. The Spiral will be the first synthetic surface run for this graded stakes winner. Current odds are at 7/2. There is a lot to like here.
Channel Isle (PP2) has odds of 15/1 after finishing 4 th in the Southwest Stakes in February. He is trained by Wayne Lukas and Jon Court will ride.
Fear The Kitten will break from post 4 with odds at 15/1. He has raced twice this year finishing 2 nd in the Southwest Stakes and 3 rd in the LeComte G3. Michael Maker is the trainer and Rosie Napravnik will ride.
My Name is Michael is trained by Bill Mott and will break from post 5. His current odds are at 10/1 after taking 3 rd in the Sam F. Davis. Joel Rosario will ride. Could show up in the superfecta.
For Greater Glory will come from the 6 th post with odds at 20/1. He took third in the John Battaglia Memorial after breaking his maiden at Oaklawn. Robby Albarado will be at the controls.
Mac the Man will break from post 7 after winning his last three starts all on the Turfway surface. Keep your eye on him; his odds are at 10/1.
General Election drew the 8 th post with odds at 20/1. He won the John Battaglia Memorial beating out competitor For Greater Glory. He is sired by Harlan’s Holiday.
Black Onyx is breaking from post position 9 and is sired by Hard Rock Ten with odds of 10/1. Won an allowance race at Gulfstream Park his last time out. Joe Bravo will be the jockey.
Giant Finish is trained by Anthony Dutrow and has current odds listed at 15/1. He took 2 nd in the John Battaglia and will break from post 10.
Taken by the Storm has odds of 12/1 and finished first his last time out at 1-mile on the turf at Gulfstream Park. He is trained by Kenneth McPeek.
Capo Bastone has the 12 th post and placed first in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park in February. He had a third place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last year where he slowly was making pace with some strict competition. John Velazquez will take the mount and Todd Pletcher is the trainer. Don’t let the far outside post position deter you from this one. Odds are 9/2.
Post time is at 5:50p.m. (ET)
