Cleveland - A total of 193 horses have pre-entries for next weekends Breeders' Cup in Louisville. Churchill Downs will host the races and the two-day event has purses totaling over $26 Million.
Trainers have been trying to get workouts in this week despite all the rain that delayed workouts for some horses because the turf was too wet.
Classic favorite, Uncle Mo, jogged a mile this week, has been aggressive and has been hitting the ground harder than his stablemate Stay Thirsty. Both are entered in the Classic and are trained by Todd Pletcher.
To Honor And Serve has been sporting a right eye patch to settle him down in his workouts due to difficulty keeping him straight in the stretch. He was more aggressive than usual in his workouts
Drosselmeyer, the 2010 Belmont winner, has been looking good during workouts and had a very sharp 1 1/2 mile run this week showing he had more to give toward the end.
Flat Out has been off the track for a few days, but had a couple of decent workouts earlier in the week.
After suffering a strain to his left foreleg Tizway has been removed from the Classic line-up just as he was beginning to assert himself. He will now retire in Kentucky.
Keep your eyes on Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile who will try and win this race for the forth time in a row. Gio Ponti is scheduled in both the Mile and the Classic, but will more than likely head to the Mile and challenge Goldikova after finishing 2nd behind the grand mare in this race last year at Churchill Downs. With Goldikova trying for Breeders' Cup history, officials switched the Mile to the10th race on the card right before the Classic. This race has a lot of talent in the field and will be very exciting!
This has been the year of upsets and long-shots with no extreme favorites emerging from the race schedule leaving the title of "Horse Of The Year" up for grabs. Post time for the Mile will be at 6:05pm, followed by the Classic at 7:05pm on ESPN.
