Cleveland - The last time out Gio Ponti could not hold on and was out run at the eighth pole by Cape Blanco in the Man O'War Stakes at Belmont Park, July 9th. Now these two horses are entered in Saturdays 1-1/4 mile Arlington Milliions, and Cape Blanco who is trained by Aidan O'Brien is the favorite at 5/2 and will break from post 7.
Gio Ponti had a late surge in the Man O'War but could not keep pace over Cape Blanco. Gio Ponti won the Arlington in 2009 and is looking to become a two-time winner of this race along with John Henry who defeated his competition in this race in 1981 and 1984. Last year Gio Ponti finished 2nd behind Debussy. Gio Ponti is trained by Christophe Clement has current odds at 2/1 and will break from post 5.
Front runner Mission Approved is getting some buzz with some thinking he is the horse to beat in this race after taking over Gio Ponti in the Manhattan Handicap in June. His odds are at 6/1 and will come from the 8th post.
From the inside post out here is how the field looks: PP1: Rahystrada 12/1 PP2: Tajaaweed 12/1, PP3 Dean's Kitten 30-1, PP4: Zack Hall 10/1 PP5: Gio Ponti 2/1 PP6:Proceed Bee 50/1 PP7: Cape Blanco 9/5 PP8: Mission Approved 6/1 PP9: General Perfect 50/1
